Do You Live Your Dreams?...Why Not?

Vacation spot or home?

Do you live where you always wanted to be?  Do you go on vacation to a favorite spot and think to yourself "I wish I could just live here!"  Why not?

Maybe it is the "grass is always greener" syndrome, but maybe...just maybe it is a resistance to change or a needed change in outlook.

When I was younger, I loved camping.  We would go to the mountains or the coast and I just felt at peace with the world.  I am also drawn to farms and fields and back road places.  As a young adult, traveling became harder for me because instead of enjoying these places, I yearned to just live there.

Why didn't I just pick myself up and move?  I'm really not sure.  I came up with all of the usual reasons excuses...money, jobs, fear of change, etc.  One of my favorite sayings is "wherever you go, there you are,"  but why not go to the place that you have always yearned to be?

back roads

Six years ago, it dawned on my husband and I that there was absolutely no reason why we couldn't.  This is a free country, we are free to move about...and there are so many wonderful places to choose from.  No one said the move would be easy; in fact, many naysayers sprang up seeming to feel it was their duty to point out all of the reasons excuses for why we should not even try.

For us, our dream destination was Maine, "Vacationland" as it is called.  It has everything that we love...coast, mountains, farms, and plenty of lakes and back road places.  It took us a year to prepare and make the move, but we are now living in the place we have always dreamed of.  The longer we are here, the more we discover and enjoy the lifestyle...and ironically, we haven't felt the need or desire to travel anymore.

For some their dream location may be in a ski resort town, a tropical beach village, a small Midwestern town, or even right in the heart of a large city.  Others may actually already live in their dream location, but not yet realize it.

What is my point?  Just this...look around you; discover your town, city, and state.  There may be more there than you realized.  Are you happy?  If not, ask yourself what environment you would be happy in, do a little research, and then make it happen!  Change may be a little scary, but once embraced, a change could be the best thing you have ever experienced.  If you are not living in your dream location, where you feel the most happy and at peace...why not?
